Germany
It’s actually not a country you associate with great travel but Germany is, in my opinion, wonderfully underrated.
Of course you have the big hitters, like brilliant Berlin and magnificent Munich (which I love love love!), but in between there’s far more to discover in this central European country than you might imagine.
In the west, the Rhine beckons with the cities of Heidelberg and Freiburg acting as 2 of my favourite bases to explore it from.
Then you have historic Hanover in the north and delightful Dresden and Leipzig in the very different east.
While not boasting the weather of its Mediterranean counterparts, Germany still offers a an incredibly affordable holiday in western Europe and plenty of cultural and charm thrown in for good measure.
